New Zealand Bush Robin - Kakaruai

Diet Insects and bugs

Breeding October and November. They build a large nest of moss firmly woven and then lined with what appears to be the fine hair of tree ferns (Very itchy to man).

General The New Zealand Bush Robin is a cheerful and busy little chap. Quite fearless, filting nearby like you would expect a Fantail possibly to catch disturbed insects also. It will even occasionally land on the shoulder. Its usually the last to be quite at night and performs a different tune for dawn as for dusk. You can hear a Bush Robin's pleasant tune in the Weka video on the main birds page.
